Winter Hair Care Tips

There are many hair care issues faced in the winter season especially drying of the scalp and dandruff. Due to the sudden change of temperature and loss of water in the air, especially from the heated indoors and cold outdoors, your hair loses its shine and feels brittle. An increase in dandruff is a common problem along with increased hair fall though falling of 150-200 strands/day is normal.

Winter can play havoc on your hair, however, a few small steps are all you need for a winter-friendly hair.

  • Lukewarm water is your best friend:

While a hot bath sounds heavenly in winters, lukewarm water is exactly what you need to protect the natural oils from being stripped from your scalp. This prevents from hair frizziness and eventually stops hair breakage.

  • Avoid extra dryness:

The cold weather results in dryness and causes damaged hair. You need to avoid other factors that can contribute to extreme dryness like using styling tools. Using a dryer is also one of them which is very common. Use a soft towel to get rid of the excess moisture and allow your hair to dry itself because the use of dryer will trigger dryness. You should also avoid the use of other styling tools like straightener or curler as the can strip away the moisture from your hair too.

  • Do not miss the conditioner

After shampooing your hair never miss conditioner as it will seal the required moisture and nourishment to your hair. Conditioner will also help you fight frizz and give life to your hair. You can choose the conditioner according to your hair type and apply it every time you wash your hair.

  • Don’t be too harsh for your hair

The cold weather is already harsh for your hair and scalp, you need to pamper your hair a little bit. If you are experiencing frizzy hair then apply some hair serum to fight frizz. Also, make sure you do not brush tangled hair harshly. After washing your hair do not comb your hair when it is wet as it can trigger hair fall.

  • Most importantly, hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate:

People tend to drink less water in winters which leads to skin and hair dehydration. No amount of hot beverages or bowls of soup will replenish your skin the way water does. So, make sure you are drinking 2-3 liters of water every day.
